One of my favourite nights out begins with a tasty meal in Yarraville, followed by a movie at The Sun. It is one of the best cinemas in Melbourne. It is a small boutique venue with a great selection of block buster movies and art house films. Each cinema is a different size and lay out, but all done art deco style.

Sun Theatre is an art deco cinema located at Yarraville Shopping Strip at Yarraville in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Both the theatre and the shopping centre belongs to Melbourne's yester years. Yarraville Shopping Centre, with its narrow streets, wide variety of shops, but not congested with mad shoppers - a relaxed atmosphere with playful children, still retains old world charm.

Grand, named after the last cinema to close operations in Footscray, is the Sun's largest cinema. Barkly, named after once famous Footscray cinema, is based on the dress circle of the original Sun.

In the 1930s, the Sun Theater Yarraville was born. Its doors opened to the public, showing black-and-white films during the days when cinema was still a novelty. This was an era when going to the movies was considered an extravaganza, and getting dressed up for the cinema was the norm. What an adventure it must have been!
